How old is my dog?

How old is my dog? is a very simple Mac OS X application that does exactly what it says on the tin. You choose the current age of your dog from a drop down menu, say what it's adult weight is and then click a button to find out how old your pooch is.

Note that you need to put your dogs adult weight in, so for puppies you will ned to put what size you think they will get to. Your vet can advise or check the Kennel Club or another reputable authority.

Installation
The program is a single application file. Just click on the link above to download it (it's an archive - ZIP- file that will be automatically expanded if you're using Safari, but if your chosen browser doesn't do that, just double click the file to expand it). Then place the file whereever you would like it (e.g. in your Applications folder). To uninstall just drag the program into the trash.

Things to be aware of
How old is my dog? will show the average age expected for a cross breed dog of good health. This is a conservative estimate for pure breeds who are expected to live slightly shorter lives (unfortunate but true). Estimates like this always vary and this program will only given a rough estimate. It's a fun way of finding out if your pooch is likely to be chewing your furniture or chewing its gums!

Andy Clayton wrote this program while beefing up on Objective-C programming on Mac OS X. It was a simple project he set himself and decided to release it as it may be useful to fellow dog owners. In case you're wondering the icon for the program is of Lucy, a West Highland Terrier belonging to Andy's wife's Aunt and Uncle. Unfortunately our own dog (a blue roan cocker spaniel) is very pretty but is so dark she's not good icon material!
